Hello there. Hope you’re doing well. Some back story. 3 months ago I posted a video [here] on youtube. I just wanted to see if I would like to make videos or not. That video performed a bit well and got 6.5K views. All Organic so I decided to make another one. But I didn’t have any topic so later I decided to make an explainer video on what is web3. You are probably thinking that what’s the relation between video and this article, right? Point is, I was noting down the points for the script and while doing that, decided to write this article first.

Web3 (or some refer web3.o)is not a single idea but it’s a bunch of ideas and a new iteration of our existing Internet. Let me quickly share what is web1 and Web2 so it will help you better understand the iteration point.

What is Web1?

According to Wiki, it all started back in 1960 with ARPANET network which became the foundation of our current internet From 1960 to 1990. In 1989, Commercial Internet service providers (ISPs) started with mail and then browsers in 1990.

It grew with time till 2004. Till then the purpose of the Internet was Read only. All these pages are static with information and interconnected with links. During this time most of us were consumers. Wikipedia can be an example where you can visit and read the information. here are some of the examples.

  1. Yahoo.com [1996]

2. CNN.com [2008]

You can see more at: archive.org

What is Web 2?

After that, the Internet started seeing sites with better design, structure, and more interactions like a visitor can go to the company website and then send an inquiry, create a personal profile on social media sites and connect with friends. We can refer to it as Read & Write. I personally think This was a time when a visitor became a user where the user can take pictures, videos, and posts on sites. Slowly these companies started utilizing all user-generated data and we saw an advertising-based business model when the user’s data is the product and the company sells it to other businesses. As a user, we were also happy as we are getting free services like messages, calls, jobs search, etc. But slowly it became a concern of privacy and most of the compies started fighting for users’ time and attention in their app so they can make more money. I am sure that you are familiar with all these compnies. Some of them are:

  1. Facebook
  2. Youtube.com
  3. Instagram.com

These all happen between 2004 to now, we’re using it!

What is Web3?

Now, if we want to enter in Web3, we need something more than just Read & Write on the Internet. Something like you can easily send money from one place to other places, Manage or create your Identity on Internet, Own your data on the Internet, Control and vote what you like and want to use in internet products.

All these ideas are part of Web3. It’s not an event like after 2022 all things are going to be Web3. No, it’s not. It will take time. Right now this change is in the Idea and development phase where technology and infrastructure are getting ready. But the important thing is, this change will be way faster than in the past due to internet penetration and people like you and me will educate others so they can also leverage it. Web3 always rewards makers and early adopters.

In this iteration, we will see Read, Write, & Trust. Internet refers to trust because we will see decentralization using blockchains, DAOs, NFTS, Cryptocurrency, etc.

Some of the examples are:

  1. Bitcoin.org
  2. Ethereum.org
  3. Decentraland.org

I hope this will help you to get some idea about Web3. Now it’s 10:17 pm here so I will make my video tomorrow. Earlier I was afraid to write and share my thoughts on Internet but I think I should learn that it’s fine to make mistakes on the Internet and learn from readers like you :) So now I will write first and then make a video so please give me follow and clap so medium push this post. It will also encourage me to write more.

I am also working on a Web3 project to simplify crypto and earning. So do join its early access at mintmoney.xyz

Thank you & Bye.
